&lt;p&gt;It would also be a huge invasion of privacy.  Do we really want &quot;biggest loser&quot; weigh ins before each flight?&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Yes, the current system may be somewhat &quot;unfair,&quot; but it prevents the price from changing after the service is purchased (at least if you want the basic service).&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Buffets at restaurants are still in business, even though they &quot;subsidize&quot; light eaters.  :)&lt;/p&gt;
